<Back to Website Design
Layout defines the placement of text and graphic elements on a web page. It determines how the page will look and how information will flow.
Just as structure organizes information within a site, layout organizes information on a page. A smart layout takes advantage of properly placed graphics to make the page appear rich and interesting (without the need for excessively large, slow-loading graphics).
Smart layout not only includes knowing where and when to place graphics and how to flow text, it also considers formatting variations between different browsers, different versions of the same browser, and even different computer platforms and monitors. Interteq codes all web pages in HTML by hand to ensure maximum control over the final layout.
As a simple test of a perspective web designer's savvy, test one of their sites on a 13" monitor (20% of internet users still use 13" monitors). Is it narrow enough to fit on the screen, or is the right edge cut off? A surprisingly large number of designers forget that many viewers still use 13" monitors.
